50th Birthday Celebrations
BEAGLE WELFARE RE-HOMING CENTRE

Since opening their doors in May 2011 the Welfare Kennels have been very busy, up to date 127 beagles have gone through their doors and overall Beagle Welfare have re-homed 380 beagles in 2011.  Any support you can give to Beagle Welfare would be gratefully received, for more information on ways to help please go to the links page and click on beagle advice.

Hot off the Press.

Nicki Tipping has contacted me to let you all know of a "walk the walk for Beagle Welfare" she is organising.  It will be on Sunday 15th April at the Stowe National Trust in Buckingham.  It starts  at 10am and is a 3 mile walk around the beautiful parkland, followed by a few fun classes and tombola.  There is a cafe next door to the paddock that will be open, cost will be £5.00 per dog and all proceeds to go to the rehoming centre.

Nicki has 2 B. W. beagles named Jango & Tilly, they would love to meet you all so why not go along on the 15th April, have fun with your dogs and help raise money for such a great cause.  For further details please contact Nicki on 0774 8001133 or email nickitippi@btinternet.com

After last year's successful campaign to prevent the granting of a planning application submitted to the East Riding Council from B & K Universal to expand their business and build 4 new factory breeding units to breed beagles for the purposes of vivisection, experimentation  & research, as
expected B & K Universal did take their planning application further to the Dept. of Communities and Local Government but thankfully in January the application was refused.  A big thank you must go to so many individuals, the K.C. and many other organisations for all their hard work, with protests, petitions, lobbying parliament etc.  As printed in Dog World on 03rd February issue Kailah Eglington, chief executive of the Dr. Hadwen Trust for Humaine Research said:  We welcome the Community Secretary's decision to stop even more dogs suffering unnecessarily in laboratory experiments.  Plans to expand the Beagle Farm were wrong not only ethically but on scientific and economic grounds as well, particularly as proven alternatives already exist.  I think this may not be the end of the story as B & K Universal may still not accept the refusal of the planning application and take this even further.  Let us hope not.

This is a special year for the club as we are celebrating our 50th Birthday.  All members will be receiving a birthday gift and there will be many specials on offer throughout the year especially at our Championship Show on 25th August at Brodsworth Miners Welfare Hall, Doncaster.  It would be great to welcome as many of you as possible at our events throughout the year.

If any one of you has any memorabilia relating to the club, or tales to tell from the past 50 years it would be great to hear from you and hopefully be able to share those memories with you all.  Sam Goldberg has already sent me 3 photographs from the late David Nicholson's archives and Eric Jones our longest serving committee member (since 1981) and Hon. Vice President has been able to fill in the details to match the photos (phew what a memory).
